La Semana Binacional de Salud (SBS) en su dieciséis año consecutivo se llevará acabo del 3-21 de Octubre del 2016. En la última década, la Semana Binacional de Salud (SBS) se ha convertido en uno de los esfuerzos de movilización más grandes en las Américas para mejorar la salud y el bienestar de la población Latina más desfavorecida y necesitada que vive en los Estados Unidos y Canadá. Durante la Semana Binacional de Salud, varias agencias del gobierno federal y estatal, organizaciones comunitarias y miles de voluntarios unen esfuerzos para realizar una serie de actividades de promocióny educación de la salud que incluyen talleres informativos, referencias para seguros médicos, vacunas y chequeos médicos.

El Comité de Planeación de la Semana Binacional de Salud ha estado planeando, colaborando y organizando eventos que tienen como objetivo mejorar el acceso a servicios necesarios, tales como cuidado médico, cuidado preventivo y actividades de promoción y educación de la salud para los miembros de la comunidad Latina aquí en el Condado de Santa Cruz.

Este año, las metas de la Semana Binacional de Salud del Condado de Santa Cruz se enfocan en:

  • aumentar el acceso y la utilización de servicios médicos, dentales y de salud reproductiva en la población Latina del Condado de Santa Cruz.
  • eventos se enfocarán en incrementar la información sobre los recursos disponibles para la comunidad, especialmente los servicios de bajo costo y los programas de salud subsidiados por el gobierno, al mismo tiempo que se crea conciencia sobre el aumento en las enfermedades crónicas y los problemas de salud que afectan a la población Latina de todas las edades.
  • eventos tienen como objetivo aumentar la educación sobre la importancia de estar mentalmente y emocionalmente saludable, como parte de la salud general de una persona, mientras también se aumenta la educación sobre los síntomas asociados con la depresión y la ansiedad y los servicios de salud mental que están disponibles a nivel local.
  • esperamos que al menos 1,200 residentes de la comunidad Latina participen en al menos un evento de la Semana Binacional de Salud.

The sixteenth Binational Health Week (BHW) will take place October 3 through 21, 2016. Over the last decade, Binational Health Week (BHW) has become one of the largest mobilization efforts in the Americas to improve the health and well being of the underserved Latino population living in the United States and Canada. During BHW, federal and state government agencies, community-based organizations and thousands of volunteers come together to conduct a series of health promotions and health education activities that include workshops, insurance referrals, vaccinations and medical screenings.

The BHW Planning Committee has been planning, collaborating and organizing events that will strive to improve access to needed medical care, preventative care, health promotion and health education activities for the members of the Latino community here in Santa Cruz County.

This year, Santa Cruz County’s Binational Health Week goals focus on:

  • increasing access and utilization of medical, dental, and reproductive health care services among the Latino population of Santa Cruz County.
  • increasing information about the resources available to the community, especially low-cost services and government subsidized health programs, while raising awareness about the growing chronic illnesses and health problems affecting the Latino population, across all age groups.
  • increase education about the importance of being mentally and emotionally healthy as part of a person’s overall health while also increasing education about symptoms associated with depression and anxiety and available local mental health services.
  • to have at least 1,200 Spanish-speaking community residents participate in at least one BHW event.
